How To Create a Green Home

We as home owners can help in a number of different ways. Here are a few tips to think about during the many renovations going on in our neighbourhood.

Holistic Design Approach
Combine the knowledge and resources of different disciplines (architecture, engineering, interior and landscape design) in an integrated team approach to finding the most cost effective "environment" solutions.

Energy Efficiency
Install high efficiency furnaces, air conditioners, Energy Star appliances and compact fluorescent lighting.

Replace old windows with double-glazed, gas-filled, air tight windows and thermally insulated walls

Water Efficiency
Install advanced low flow fixtures, like dual flush toilets, front-load washer, showerheads and aerated faucets that can reduce potable water consumption and save on water heating.

Indoor Air Quality
Select finishing products (carpets, millwork, paints, adhesives, sealants, etc) that are low in volatile compounds that cause bad odours and irritate sensitive homeowners. These features are important for people with respiratory ailments and chemical sensitivities and anyone who wants to reduce their exposure to unpleasant irritants.

Remember: Green homes are healthier homes!
