Toilet Tag!
When: Saturday, May 12
Parent of players at Manor Park U5 Soccer are invited to play ‘Toilet Tag’ during the warm-up tomorrow!

What’s this all about?
Manor Park Soccer develops more than just soccer skills in children.  We aim to help your child build all kinds of motor skills (also known as physical literacy) that will help them stay active for life – or even develop into an Olympic athlete!  So, during practices at Manor Park Soccer children will play with and without soccer balls – and often games that don’t look like soccer at all.
So please join in for ‘Toilet Tag’ during our 5’ warm-up.  Here is how it’s played:

TOILET TAG:

Part 1:  Parents are it!  Children run around trying to avoid being tagged by an adult.  Once tagged, the child must ‘freeze’ on one knee and with their hand above their head.  To ‘unfreeze’, an adult must touch the child’s hand. The child then jumps up and spins around 360 degrees, before resuming running.  (Making flushing sounds while spinning is fun too!)
Part 2:  Kids are it!  Parents and children trade places and parents are frozen and unfrozen. Please see above for details.

Manor Park Neighborhood Clean Up
Date: Saturday, May 5, 2012 (rain or shine)

Bring your own rakes, brooms, gardening tools and gloves.  The MPCC will supply garbage bags, yard bags, vinyl gloves and refreshments. The MPCC will set up at the Community Centre and focus on cleaning the adjacent sports fields and playground.  Residents can either join us in this area, or come pick up supplies and refreshments then tidy up other parts of the neighborhood.

Manor Park After School Program!
January 26, 2012
The Manor Park Community Council (MPCC) runs the after-school program at Manor Park Public School.

We also work with your school principal, teachers and Home & School Council to provide arts and sports programs during lunch breaks – provide lots of sports and arts programs on weekdays and weekends – have really popular summer day camps – build the skating rinks – and offer special events for families!

In September, when the school board launches Extended Day programming at Manor Park, the MPCC wants to be there too, as your  ‘3rd party provider’.

Through the school, you will receive an ‘Extended Day Program Parent Survey;’ asking these questions:

Would you be interested in accessing the care offered by a 3rd party operator?
Yes  X                No

Please answer Yes! to keep the MPCC as a 3rd party provider of after-school programming – and return the survey to the school before February 29, 2012.

Would you like to learn more about Manor Park AFTER-SCHOOL?
Please call, visit or click!

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS – What every Manor Park parent needs to know
January 18, 2012
Full-day kindergarten is coming to Manor Park Public School in September.  Along with it come other recommendations from the Pascal Report:  Extended Day programming (before and after-school programs), and childcare activities on PD Days, and school holidays.

The Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) is responsible for organizing Extended Day programs, and has recently decided to consider third party providers for this service.  The Manor Park Community Council (MPCC) has been the local after school care provider for more than 20 years, and wants to become the school board's third party provider of before- and after-school programming at Manor Park Public School.

Read this important message from the MPCC – and learn how you can keep the MPCC providing recreational (and after-school!) program for our community.

Manor Park Outdoor Rinks – Closed in the Evenings!
January 4, 2012
This snap freeze has gotten our ice surfaces ready for skating!  Enjoy the new pleasure puddle to the north of the skating oval and boarded hockey rink.  Unfortunately the night lights are not yet turned on so the rink will be closed evenings until the ice surfaces are night-lit.

Shovels will be available at all times for volunteers and skaters to help clear the ice surfaces.  Your help is especially appreciated following a snowfall and each evening.  Surfaces cleared of snow by 9pm will be flooded by rink supervisors.

MANOR PARK AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM  - September 2012
January 31, 2012
The Manor Park Community Council (MPCC) currently provides after-school programming for students from JK to grade 6.    Registration for after-school programming (also known as Extended Day programming) for September 2012 will begin on April 1.

Registration forms will be available online through this website, or through the MPCC office located in the Manor Park Public School (100 Braemar Street).

The Ottawa Carleton District School Board is currently surveying families about their childcare needs.  The survey refers to ‘3rd Party Providers’ – that us, the MPCC!   If you have not already done so, you may contact the school for a copy of the survey – and return it to the school when completed.  If you would like to register with the MPCC, please indicate ‘YES’ when asked if you would like services through a 3rd Party Provider.

The MPCC has been providing recreational programs to the community for over 35 years.  In addition to after-school programming, we work with the school principal, teacher and Home & School Council to provide arts and sports programs during lunch breaks – provide lots of sports and arts programs on weekdays and weekends – have really popular summer day camps – build the skating rinks – and offer special events for families!

Skating Rink Closed
January 10, 2012
The Manor Park Skating Rink is currently closed due to the warm weather, which has created soft ice conditions. Please stay off the ice so that when cold weather returns, the ice will freeze into smoother ice.

I hope that I can count on you! Please email ‘yes’ to mpcc@manorpark.ca

Soccer & Baseball Registration
April 19, 2011
The rink is gone, spring is here! We are in the last days of registration for our spring sports programs.
Soccer
Our largest program is just right for the novice soccer player! Children as young as age 4 can learn soccer basics in small groups and on mini fields. More experienced, or older players, add games to skill development. The season ends with a soccer festival!

Baseball
Improved for 2011! Participant surveys gave us great ideas for improving this popular program: smaller groups to help teach the rules of the game; improved coaching to teach skills, and games to teach sportsmanship and teamwork.

Rugby
Did you know that touch rugby is one of the MPCC’s fastest growing sports? It’s fast, easy to learn and co-ed – no tackling is involved. Players learn the skills and game basics with experienced coaches. New players get an official rugby ball so they can practice with friends. Touch rugby for kids is on the sports fields each Saturday morning.
