Chair Message - November 2005
Disaster - we use the word occasionally and, at that moment, we mean it. Thankfully, many of our lives here in North America have never been destroyed by a natural disaster. Our children continue to be educated and we parents continue our paths of work each day. In our harried lives we can lose sight of the basic fundamental structures that sustain us, such as shelter.
My family lives in one of the original Manor Park designs which during the winter leave my plates cold to the touch. Despite the lack of insulation, we are sheltered from the worst of the winter. Collectively, we have fought for the preservation of our neighbourhood and we will again, when the call goes out. As I write this piece, there are communities who have been devastated by disturbances beyond their control. People need resources in order to rally.
This year's Skating Party on Feb. 4th will be an opportunity to give back to our collective brothers and sisters. I have signed a third party agreement with the Canadian Red Cross so we may collect funds on their behalf. Following the terms of the agreement, all monies donated will be sent to an area deemed by the Canadian Red Cross as the, "most in need". I would like to thank you ahead of time for the generous spirit our neighbourhood embodies and what I know we can accomplish together.
