Thank You
The Executive and the Board of the Manor Park Community Association would like to extend a special note of gratitude to The Honourable Mauril Belanger MP, the Honourable Madeleine Meilleur MPP, Councillor Jaques Legendre, as well a former Mayor, MPP and current Mayoral Candidate, Mr. Jim Watson for attending and speaking our MPCA's Annual General Meeting (AGM) last Wednesday, June 9, 2010. All four were generous enough to attend and stay through the entire AGM to speak despite an unusually low turnout (likely due a storm warning and the final Stanley Cup playoffs ). Each provided useful and important updates for all of us in the Community. Each demonstrated a genuine and robust commitment to our community.
Thank You all. We very much appreciate your efforts.
MPCA meetings are held at the Inez Sutherlerand Libary in Manor Park Public School on the second Tuesday of every month (except summer months) at 7:30 pm.
Volunteer organizations prosper through the renewal of volunteers over time. Volunteers are motivated by credible institutions and the chance to make a difference. The Manor Park Community Association offers both. It has served the community since 1948 on a diversity of issues and roles. It continues to be vibrant today and welcomes all interested residents who wish to participate.
The MPCA exists to serve residents of Manor Park. It is mainly concerned with political and civic issues which could affect the quality of our lives and creates a venue for citizen action in the interest of the community.
It also serves the community by organizing social events such as the Manor Park Dinner Dance and Garage Sale. Members are friendly and work collegially for the betterment of Manor Park. Many lifetime friendships and a more in-depth knowledge of the community are obtained for the volunteer through this work.
The MPCA is legally structured to be representative of the community. Annually, the Board of Directors initiates a membership drive to canvass residents for financial support and to create an opportunity to engage them about their community concerns. The association's business is run through 16 Directors, five of whom are the officers of this not-for-profit corporation. Each year at the Annual General Meeting, members have an opportunity to vote for a slate of members including the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. The Immediate Past President is an exofficio member of the Board who usually maintains an active role.
Directors have taken on "portfolios" of sorts by attaching themselves to issues that interest them and concern the community. We have, for instance, members who follow transportation, development, environment, public safety and more.
Association members may address the Board of Directors on specific issues and are welcome to observe the monthly Board meetings. All members have the chance to run for any office at the Annual General Meeting.
